Information Session: July
Wed 19 July 2017, 19:30 – 21:30 BST
Our information session is an opportunity for you to find out more about volunteering with Samaritans. Whether you'd like to train to become a Listening Volunteer (and directly support the people we work with) or assist in the running of the branch by becoming a Support Volunteer.
Samaritans have been a part of the local community for over 50 years, with 201 branches across United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. Each branch is a mini business, with every role in the branch carried out by volunteers. Because of this, there are many ways to volunteer with Samaritans. Volunteers give their time to local branches through fundraising, publicity, administration, prison work and actively listening on telephones, face to face, by email, text messaging and letters.
To be a Samaritans volunteer you won’t need to have previous experience or qualifications, but you will need to be open minded and non-judgmental.
If you're considering becoming a Bolton Samaritans volunteer, you will need to attend at least one information session before we can select you as a volunteer.
The session lasts between 1.5-2 hours and tea/coffee/juice and biscuits will be provided.
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
To be a Listening Volunteer you must be over the age of 18, though we can accept applications from someone who is 17 if they turn 18 before training begins. We can accept Support Volunteers who are 16+.
Do I need to fill in an application form before the information session?
All prospective volunteers will need to fill in an application form, however, we do not expect you to do this until after you have attended an information session. We have physical forms available on the night, as it is only a brief application, but can provide digital copies on request.
What are my public transport options for getting to and from the event?
We are easily accessible by bus as we are in a central location.
Our branch is a short walk from the Market Place shopping centre, just off Bridge Street.
We are a 15 minute walk from the bus and train stations.
We can send a map/further instructions closer to the event.
Where can I park?
Our nearest car park is on All Saint's Street (charges apply) https://www.ncp.co.uk/find-a-car-park/car-parks/bolton-all-saints-street-east/
The Market Place shopping centre offers parking up to 2.5 hours for £1 (FREE after 5PM) http://boltonmarketplace.co.uk/travel/by-car/

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for further information. We do not have a phone number we can give out, the only number you can contact us on is the helpline local number which may be diverted to another branch.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
You do not need to bring your printed ticket. As long as we have your name, you will be allowed in.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, you can. Space in our meeting room is limited, however, we do encourage prospective volunteers to bring a friend if you would find it more comfortable.
