Information Session on the new MSc Transformative Learning and Teaching
Wed 22 March 2017, 15:30 – 17:30 GMT
We are holding an information session on the new MSc Transformative Learning and Teaching - an initial teacher education programme.
This two-year masters programme is a ground-breaking programme with graduates gaining both an academic masters and a professional registration to teach in Scotland. It is the first of its kind in Scotland - and one of the first in the UK.
We know that children from low-income households in Scotland do significantly worse at school than those from better-off homes - particularly during the transition from primary to secondary school.
This innovative programme has been developed to produce teachers with the knowledge and skills to help address this attainment gap - with graduates entitled to teach across primary and secondary schools.
Students will actively subscribe to a philosophy that views teaching as an "activist" role with social, political and educational importance. We aim to recruit an ever-more diverse student population, including students for whom English is not their first language.
You will be able to choose from one of the following pathways:
Nursery – Secondary 3, generalist
Primary 5 – Secondary 6 subject specialist. Subject pathways offered in the first instance will focus on shortage subjects: Computing Science, English, Mathematics and Physics.
The programme views university-based and site-based learning in schools as equally important, with groups of students working in clusters of schools throughout the two-year programme, spending at least two days a week in cluster schools.
Information Session - summary
This session is open to all - current applicants and those interested in learning more about the MSc Transformative Learning and Teaching.
