Event description

Description

Tutor: Jonny Mills
Head Brewer: Noel James

Course time: 9:15am - 4:00pm

These one day ‘ingredient’ courses look in detail at each of the four key ingredients in beer. Each course gives an in depth look at how each ingredient is produced before arriving at the brewery, how to analyse and select the best ingredients for brewing specific beer styles and how best to use them in the brew-house to produce desired characteristics and flavour.

Course Details:

Despite making up the majority of your pint, water is certainly the least talked about ingredient in beer. Despite this, the type and quality of water used in brewing has a huge impact on finished beer flavour. Ever wondered why certain styles of beer historically emerged in certain places, often this has plenty to do with the type of water naturally available in that area.

This course starts by looking at water sources and their associated qualities and goes onto to cover water treatment at the brewery and how to produce the perfect brewing water for each beer style.

  • Water Sources
  • Water Reports and Analysis
  • Undesirables: Chlorine, Chloramine, Nitrates
  • Alkalinity
  • Minerals and Brewing Salts

This course includes:

  • Morning Coffee/Tea & Pastries
  • Lunch - this will be provided by one of Bristol finest lunchtime eateries, these include Pieminister, Pinkmans and Harts Bakery. Vegetarian options available.
  • An end of day beer in New Bristol's tap bar with the Head brewer and team.

NB: Please remember this is a working brewery so wear practical clothes and shoes.
