Event description

Description

Caroline Knight examines the art and culture of the courts of James I and Charles I. Court designer to James I before he became an architect in 1615, Inigo Jones introduced England to an Italianate style of great sophistication. Van Dyck, born and trained in Antwerp in the time of Rubens, was appointed court portrait painter by Charles I in 1632. His images of the King and Queen, their children and the courtiers are our most familiar images of the Stuart court.
