About the course

The course will be both lecture and practical based giving you the opportunity to inject model patients with supervision. Dr Jonathan Brown, Director of Cityskin Clinic in Melbourne will be teaching the course and will be superivising the injections.


Course Aims

By the end of the day you should be able to understand relevant facial anatomy, be able to assess a patients face prior to treatment, draw up Botox and administer injections in safe manner.

Learn how to inject foreheads, crows feet, frown lines and masseters and then practice using real patients under Dr Brown's supervision.


Lecture 1: An Introduction to Botox by Dr Jonathan Brown, Cosmetic Physician.

Explore the benefits of working in aesthetic medicine. This will help you to understand your motivation for becoming a Botox specialist. In this lecture, learn how Botox was initially used in medical treatments and how it became the most common injectable cosmetic procedure in the world.

Key points covered: The history of Botox in medical use, the history of Botox in cosmetic medicine, common areas that Botox can treat. How does Botox work? How long does it take for Botox to take effect?


Practical Session 1. How to draw up Botox ready for use

Learn how to reconstitute a 100 unit vial of Botox and 500 unit vial of Dysport ready for use. Learn the techniques to reduce the risk of causing a blunt needle. We will provide all the necessary equipment for the practical session


Lecture 2: Facial anatomy

A discussion of the key muscles of the face that we treat with Botox. Learn about frontalis, corrugators, procerus and orbicularis oculi muscles and how they cause lines.

Key points covered: What is frontalis and how does it cause forehead lines? What is the glabella? What are crows feet?


Lecture 3: An introduction to facial aesthetics - which area do we treat first?

Learn how to assess which cosmetic areas are priorities when treating patients.


Lecture 4: How to treat glabella, forehead, crows feet and masseters

Learn where to place Botox injections to treat frown lines and forehead lines and the different depths of injection for treating the forehead, crows feet and glabella with Botox injections. Find out how to assess a face prior to injecting Botox and where to inject safely to avoid ptosis.

Key points covered: How many units of Botox are needed to treat the glabella, forehead and crows feet? How deep do I place the needle? How to hold the needle to allow accurate injection. How to treat masseters to reduce TMJ pain/tooth grinding.



LUNCH BREAK - lunch will be provided free of charge for all attendees



Lecture 5: Assessing a patient's facial movements

Using videos of real patients you will learn how to assess a patient's face and which areas should be treated.


Lecture 6: Assessing a live patient

In this lecture we will discuss treating a live patient. Review the relevant anatomy, find out patient concerns and forumulate a treatment plan.


Lecture 6: Watching a patient being injected

Watch a patient undergo Botox treatment by Dr Brown. See the depth of injection in different areas and how to minimise bruising and discomfort.


Practical Session 2: Inject a model patient

In this practical session you will have the chance to inject a model patient under guidance. Learn how to inject with confidence.


Lecture 7: Aftercare and dealing with complications/problems

Find out how to treat common problems and manage complications including 'Spocking' after Botox, heavy brow, lid ptosis and more.


Lecture 8: Conclusion and questions

Have a chance to ask questions for both injectors and a model patient. Find out how it feels to have Botox from a patient and ask them about it.
