Injury Prevention, Fitness and Wellbeing for Dance Teachers (Teaching Fit)...

This one day practical workshop (worth 8 CPD hours) will cover injury prevention, fitness and wellbeing for dance teachers.
The workshop will begin with a ‘Classicore’ practical session, integrating Pilates, ballet based floor work, dynamic stretching and body conditioning exercises. This will also include a review of fitness fundamentals, strategies for helping to prevent injuries common among dance teachers, and tips for designing your own set of time-efficient, mat-based exercises you can do at home or on the road, specifically tailored to keep dance professionals ‘teaching fit.’
This workshop aims to review and deepen the understanding of fundamental principles of fitness (muscular strength, muscular endurance, core stability, flexibility, cardiorespiratory endurance), identifying injuries to which dance teachers are commonly susceptible, and explore effective, time-efficient strategies to help prevent injuries, and to improve and maintain fitness and stamina.
Upon completion you will have:
an enhanced understanding of applying proper technique and modifications as appropriate for engaging with ballet based floor work and body conditioning exercises
increased awareness of fitness fundamentals and how to apply them in designing a time-efficient, personalised fitness action plan
a deeper anatomical understanding of core stability and effective methods for strengthening your ‘power house’
an awareness of injuries common among dance teachers (including Achilles tendonitis, shin splints and lower back, neck and shoulder pain resulting from over and under use of muscles while teaching) and practical strategies to help with injury prevention
the inspiration and motivation to make time to stay fit with a concise set of mat-based exercises you can do at home or while travelling, and
the confidence and tools to devise and implement an effective and realistic ‘Teaching Fit’ action plan, including tips for staying on track during especially busy periods.
