Injustice Screening
Date and time
Description
The event will take place in QA065, 15:00-17:00.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with some of our expert Law and Criminology staff, including Louise Hewitt, Dr Alexandra Fanghanel, Dr Richard Wild, Dr Michael Fiddler and Dr Camille Stengel as chair.
The film was the subject of an interesting controversy. The film-maker, who had made the film under a pseudonym, was publicly revealed to be Dr Lee Salter by a group of academics at the Open University, who mobilised to cancel a screening of Injustice that was scheduled to take place on their university grounds (for further information, Dr Julia Downes explains her position in this blog post https://oucriminology.wordpress.com/2018/05/22/the-injustice-of-injustice-making-a-feminist-complaint-and-resisting-abuses-of-power-within-higher-education-institutions/).
Dr Salter was fired from Sussex university for committing a crime and subsequently becoming involved with the criminal justice system. You can find more information on the film website and blog, including a post that explains his rationale for remaining anonymous (http://www.injustice-film.com/2018/04/18/why-i-remained-anonymous/).
This is a unique opportunity to watch this documentary, and the panel discussion is an amazing way to dive deeper into the issues covered in the documentary as well as the controversies that followed it!
