Event Description:

This will be the fifth instalment of hedgehog lab's flagship event, and we'll be focusing in on 'Industry 4.0', also referred to as the fourth industrial revolution within manufacturing and industry.

On the evening, we will concentrate on exploring how advances in automation, robotics, big data, AI and more, will result in industrial transformation.

We're back to the presentation format at this event, with one expert set to increase our understanding of what Industry 4.0 actually is, and what it means for businesses, before our second speaker, John Ferguson, explains how his organisation are already benefiting from the adoption of such technologies.

Speaker Profiles - John Ferguson (Architecture Innovation Lead at Nissan):

John is responsible for designing the future technology architectures that will support Nissan Europe's business strategy. He is also responsible for supporting the creation and governance of the roadmaps required to make the vision a reality. The role involves exploring new technologies and concepts, figuring out how Nissan can best exploit them, and augmenting the best ideas into technology roadmaps.

John has a background in innovation having won Nissan's Chairman's Innovation Award and having spent time working in an incubator in Paris working with mobility startups. He has worked at Nissan for 14 years and has a background in software development and Enterprise Architecture.

Speaker Profile - Andrew Esson (Chair of the EEF North East Regional Advisory Board):

Andrew Esson is an award-winning engineer, industrialist, and entrepreneur who has spent his career in and around technology-based companies. A Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Andrew holds a Masters Degree in Technology Management and has decades of experience in the strategic use of technology to enable business transformation, including serial ERP, CAD and CAM implementations, development of novel product configuration software systems, and offshore equipment monitoring.

Andrew is Chair of the EEF North East Regional Advisory Board, and currently divides his time between supporting the Scaleup North East programme as a Scaleup Partner, and various non-executive, advisory and consultancy projects under the banner of his own business, Esson Partnership.

Event Schedule:

Timings subject to change.

6:00pm - 6:30pm: Registration & Refreshments:

Guests collect their welcome pack on arrival and are free to help themselves to a drink, chat with fellow delegates and enjoy the build up to the panel discussion.

6:30pm - 7:15pm: Andrew Esson (Chair of the EEF North East Regional Advisory Board).

Andrew will explain Industry 4.0 and the four disruptions that will cause the digitization of the manufacturing industry: big data, analytics and AI, new and rising user interfaces and automation.

7:15pm - 7:45pm: Food & Networking:

Guests are free to grab themselves another drink, discuss the panel's thoughts and enjoy some delicious treats ahead of the second half of the event.

7:45pm - 8:15pm: Speaker Two - John Ferguson (Architecture Innovation Lead at Nissan):

John will provide a more practical overview of how organisations in manufacturing are already embracing the kinds of solutions discussed in our first presentation, using experience from his time with Nissan to bring examples to life.

8:15pm - 8:45pm: Close & Networking.

Enjoy the opportunity to pose one-on-one questions to those on our panel, interact with fellow delegates and ensure you have a clear idea of how you can implement or follow up on your learnings.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

If you have any questions for us, please do feel free to get in touch via any of our social media channels (listed above). Alternatively, we'd be happy to hear from you on events@hedgehoglab.com. Whatever your query, we'd love to help you out!

What is the nearest station to the event venue?

The nearest train station to hedgehog lab is Newcastle Central Railway Station, located just an 8-minute walk from the station. Manors Metro station is the closest inner-city rail service, but if arriving via train it is advised to walk or get a taxi for convenience.

Is there any parking available?

There will be free limited parking spaces outside Generator Studios on the night of the event. Car park users should request a parking pass from a volunteer upon arrival. Alternatively, there is a multi-storey parking facility just around the corner.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You do not have to bring your printed ticket to the event, however, there will be a registration process upon arrival (see the event schedule above for more), and as such you will be required to have notified us of your intent to attend to guarantee your seat.

Will there be food and/or drink?

Of course. As hosts of the event, hedgehog lab will provide a range of soft drinks, beers, coffee and locally-crafted food to make sure you don't go home hungry or thirsty!

Does the event actually start at 6pm?

In a word, no. As per the event schedule, there will be a 30-minute registration and networking period prior to us getting under way, so don't worry if you're unsure if you can make it for6pm sharp. We do ask that you are here by 6:30pm so we can get under way promptly.

I've been given a ticket but can no longer make it. What should I do?

We understand that plans change, but as this is an exclusive event we do ask those who can no longer join us send us a courtesy message. Doing so will prevent your name from reaching a ban list, filled with those who have 'no showed' us, so it's well worthwhile if you fancy joining us at a later date!
