Event description

Description

Join the Digital Office for Scottish Local Government's first joint workshop with CivTech®, exploring how we can use a challenge based approach to innovation, solving real problems and creating better services for our citizens.

Our L05 Digital Transformation Capabilities project aims to develop mindset, methods and associated capabilities to support the creation of good public services – a common language for transforming services. Other digital leadership projects set out the vision for transformation however this needs to be underpinned by clear methods, design literacy standards and the capability and capacity to drive real transformation.

Using innovation can bring organisations impressive benefits, but it must have a systematic and clearly defined approach to be effective. It can take many different forms that range from bleeding-edge innovation (never been trialled anywhere before) to market-tested, but never been used in a local council before.

We have partnered up with CivTech®, who bring together public sector expertise and private sector creativity to solve real problems through technology solutions, using a challenge based approach to innovation. The whole approach is predicated on a simple mantra “Start with the problem, not the solution” with a focus on people before product.

The CivTech® programme is part of the Scottish Government’s Digital Directorate, and has run over 3 cycles working with 18 different public service partners on 26 challenges, ranging from flood warning systems to young people’s mental health. Building on these 3 years of experience delivering innovation for sponsors including Stirling Council and Glasgow City Council, and now part of the Open Innovation network, CivTech® have a range of learning which they are keen to share and discuss with our Local Government partners.

This partnership event will provide practical tasters of CivTech’s workshops and case studies from the programme including:
  • The CivTech Intrapreneurship Leaders Programme and the organisational leadership, mind-set and skills needed to develop a culture which embraces innovation and;
  • CivTech Challenge Definition covering practical approaches to exploring problems and defining Challenges which are ready for open innovation routes.

Participants will also hear about the CivTech process and opportunities to join Civtech 4.0 as a Challenge Sponsor.

Places for this event are limited to members of the Scottish Local Government Digital Partnership only and we would recommend early registration to guarantee your place.

Attendees should come with an idea of a challenge they would like to solve within their local authority, to be discussed on the day.

Lunch will be provided. Please state any dietary requirements when completing the registration form.
