Innovating Local Democracy Conference

27-28th January 2020, People's History Museum, New Ct St, Manchester M3 3ER

**Please be aware, this event is aimed at local authorities. Due to a surge in interest in this event, we will be restricting tickets to two attendees per local authority. A place may also be booked for a councillor in addition to two local authority staff members.

If you wish to attend for both days, don't forget to book a ticket for both Monday and Tuesday.

If there are additional staff from the same local authority that would like to attend this event, please email democracy@culture.gov.uk to book a slot on our reserve list. Places on the reserve list will be given on a first come first served basis.**

You are invited to a two-day conference on innovations in local democracy, by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, and Luminate.

In Manchester, on 27-28th January, we will share the lessons from Public Square and the Innovation in Democracy Programme. Our programmes are supporting local councils to use participatory and deliberative democracy, including citizens’ assemblies, to involve residents in decisions that affect their lives.

We’ll share what has worked well, what the challenges have been, and discuss next steps in this field. We’ll also be highlighting other exciting projects from around the UK and hear from international experts about their cutting edge exemplars from across the world.

What to expect

As befitting a conference on deliberative and participatory democracy, there'll be opportunities for you to shape conference sessions. The full programme of interactive workshops, masterclasses and panel discussions will be announced later.

You’ll have the opportunity to network with a wide range of peers and practitioners, giving you the space to test your ideas with experienced colleagues in a supportive environment and take away the essentials to bring innovative, deliberative democracy to your council.
