We all know the importance of having the right information at the right time and in the right format. But with ever expanding sources of data, it can be a real challenge to integrate multiple data sets and use these to gain meaningful insights.

Where do you start?

This free virtual event is intended for anyone who has an interest in data-driven innovation and how that can positively impact learning, teaching and digital transformation.

Our presentations will share some technical insights and research opportunities. This will be followed by a panel discussion with representatives from the academic community, public sector, technology and commercial community. The panel will include:

It builds on previous workshops, facilitated by Wallscope, the Business School, NHS Scotland, the Scottish Government and others, exploring the uses and benefits of open data in a range of scenarios.

Format

10.00-10.15: Welcome and introductions

10.15-10.45: Session 1 - Scottish prescription behaviour during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic

EUBS doctoral researcher Antonia Gieschen will present her work (done in collaboration with Wallscope) which analyses the impact of COVID-19 on the drug prescription behaviour of GPs in Scotland.

10.45-11.15: Session 2 - The Power of Machine Learning

Wallscope’s Lead Developer Antero Duarte will talk about the power of Machine Learning and how that can eliminate barriers to knowledge, remove silos and create opportunities for businesses and organisations to better innovate and collaborate.

11.15-12.00: Session 3 - Panel discussion

An open discussion about innovation and the importance of data in organisations. We will also explore themes around the use of AI and how that can help organisations innovate in a sustainable way. How can we best work with open data to improve outcomes across Scotland? How can we unlock access to information, and enable collaboration across organisational and technological boundaries?

12.00-12.30: Session 4 - Technology workshop - a practical focus

Following on from earlier sessions Wallscope will be joined by John Murdoch of Celerity to introduce some of the current issues around data storage and access. This session will be focused on more technical aspects such as data storage, aggregation and querying, as well as an outline of some of the AI/Machine Learning techniques.
