Description

Please join us at our next dinner for a discussion about how determining the appropriate balance between product innovation and consumer empowerment is key to enhancing access to insurance products for the poor.

Our speakers for the evening will be Bhairav Raja, Global Practice Specialist on Private Sector Development and Financial Services for DAI, and Andrea Camargo, Director of Regulation and Consumer Protection of the Microinsurance Catastrophe Risk Organisation (MiCRO). Bhairav and Andrea will present specific examples from Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa and will emphasise the importance of bringing a women-oriented focus to inclusive insurance.

Bhairav is passionate about the development opportunities associated with engaging the private sector to create more sustainable social investment outcomes. He applies market system approaches to challenges in the real economy, in agricultural and renewable energy value chains. He has experience in working with hard-to-reach communities in fragile markets in Africa and Latin America.

Andrea´s goal is to encourage all stakeholders in the inclusive insurance value chain to embrace innovation whilst ensuring that microinsurance consumers are effectively protected. In this context she promotes “best practice” with policymakers, regulators and supervisory authorities to facilitate the development and the implementation of innovative microinsurance products. At the same time, she supports the industry to empower consumers and make sure that the products offered have real value.

DAI is a global development company whose mission is to make a lasting difference in the world by helping people improve their lives. DAI aims to provide an entrepreneurial approach to development, notably by embracing the virtues of the private sector. DAI’s vision is to create a world in which communities and societies become more prosperous, fairer and better governed, safer, healthier, and environmentally more sustainable.

MiCRO is a specialty reinsurer supported by Mercy Corps, Swiss Re, the Climate Adaptation Platform (CAP), the Swiss Development Agency and the Inter-American Development Bank. MiCRO is a social business that offers risk transfer solutions against natural disasters that protect vulnerable populations who do not have access to insurance in an affordable and sustainable manner. Currently, MiCRO is 100% focused on designing holistic risk management solutions to protect against natural disasters that will benefit low-income people living in Central America. MiCRO is providing technical assistance to local partners to design and implement index-based insurance products complemented by the offering of value-added services which are essential to increase the resilience of low-income populations in Guatemala and El Salvador.

The ticket includes a two course menu, a glass of house wine and a great discussion!
