What is innovation and how can it be applied to research projects? Universities are hot beds of innovation but how do you engage with external organisations? What skills do you need to develop in order to build a company of your own? Where do you find funding to kickstart your idea?

This workshop will introduce researchers to business fundamentals and give an overview of university entrepreneurship using examples. We will analyse and discuss a case study of a business that is trying to scale but is faced with considerable challenges. We will also cover the various aspects of the commercialisation process and discuss a range of tools that you can use to assess your own business idea.

Presenter: Dr Joanna Young is the Director of her own consultancy specialising in scholarly communication, careers and enterprise training. She delivers workshops at universities and companies around the UK and Europe and holds a BSc, MSc and PhD from the University of Edinburgh.
