Event description

Description

Innovation in Chains

Value - Supply - Block

Welcome to The Innovation Network's first event of the 19/20 calendar.

This event adresses several "chain" lenses for viewing opportunities for innovation effectiveness in high value manufacturing:

  • the Innovation value chain
  • the supply chain, and
  • the more recent emergence (and hype?) of block chain.

We will have several speakers from academia and industry who'll generously share their wisdom with us, including:

Prof Jan Godsell, WMG, Warwick University

Jan is a Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Strategy. Her work focuses on developing sustainable business models through the alignment of product, marketing and supply chain strategy. As a chartered engineer, Jan has more than two decades of combined industry experience in product development, innovation, supply chain strategy, and process improvement working for ICI, Astra Zeneca and Dyson. She has advised government and industry on supply chain strategy and its relationship to industrial and business strategy. She has served on numerous advisory boards, and is currently a member of the Made Smarter Expert Panel. Jan is also on the editorial board of 3 major operations and supply chain journals.

Nick Wildgoose BA (Hons) FCA FCIPS

Nick is a supply chain professional and qualified accountant who has held a variety of financial, procurement and commercial positions in companies such as PWC, BOC Group, The Virgin Group, Zurich Insurance Group. He served as a specialist advisor to the World Economic Forum on the topic of systemic supply chain risk, was Chairman of the Supply Chain Risk Leadership Council and is still on their Board. He also served on the Board of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply and has spoken and written on business intelligence and supply chain management. While with Zurich, he led the development of their award-winning supply chain risk products, giving him unique insight on how many global companies address real risk issues of their supply chains and driving performance. He now advises in all areas related to procurement and supply chain performance with a focus on supply chain resilience. He also works with DHL Resilience360 to further enhance their lauded supply chain risk management solution.

Mike Devrell, RSS Programme Manager, Rotork Controls Ltd

Mike has over 10 years’ experience working for Rotork and is currently the Programme Manager for Rotork’s Intelligent Asset Management system. In a previous role at Rotork, Mike was an integration trouble-shooter at customers’ sites across the world. He was responsible for development of FDT/DTM technology software used for configuration and asset management and has deep experience of on-site installations of various Fieldbus technologies. Regarding the downstream end of the supply chain, Mike will refer to current smart technologies used in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) within the valve and actuator industry, and address both the benefits and key implementation challenges, such as connectivity and security.
