Event description
Enjoy a tour of some of the museum spaces, hear some case studies and join the discussion about what the museum of the future looks like.

About this Event

Have you ever spent your leisure time visiting somewhere you think could be more exciting with the use of technology? Have you have seen first-hand how it can augment the customer experience or even increase revenue?

Perhaps you already have some ideas, or may even be working on something similar for a client? Or maybe you’d just like to be part of the discussion on how to make the region more digitally entertaining.

If so we would like to hear from you….

Background

The North East is rich in cultural history, with a huge number of arts and cultural venues, coupled with a passion for sport, a thriving music scene and one of the country’s biggest programme of events. Regionally, we welcome 64m tourists annually, which generates approximately £3.9b (figures based on 2014).

However, audiences are changing the way they want to be entertained – the application of technology in their everyday lives has raised expectations of their leisure-time experiences. In turn the use of technologies opens up new opportunities to communicate with audiences in new ways and better understand what they want and how they interact with entertainment.

The challenge: What does the museum of the future look like?

How do we use existing and emerging technologies in a sustainable way to:

• build new audiences

• engage communities with our collections and the stories they tell

The tech

Discovery Museum’s current vision is:

‘Spark conversation about Tyneside’s changing story to create a sense of place and a shared humanity’, we are keen to explore how visitors can use their own technology to:

• Engage in conversations

• Understand Tyneside’s changing story

• Appreciate the communities in which they live

• Empathise with others in their community

• Help everyone move towards a better future

In addition, what opportunities, if any, are there to share technologies with Tyne & Wear Archives (Proof of Concept projects focused on Sentiment Analysis and Automated Meta-Data creation)?

Join us from 9:30am to 12.30pm for a tour of some of the museum spaces, to hear some case studies looking at where technology has been innovatively used to create more engaging exhibits and to discuss what we think the museum of the future does look like.
