Our third annual conference will be held on Thursday 26th October 2017 at Blackpool Winter Gardens. It is aimed at everyone who works with children, pre-birth up to age four, in Blackpool.

The event will be chaired by Julie Taylor, Professor of Child Protection at the University of Birmingham, and will feature three key themes:

  • Community and Parenting
  • Child Oral Health
  • Behavioural Activation and Trauma Informed Care

Our keynote speakers are:

  • Dr Crispin Day (Head of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Research Unit, Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College, London)
  • Eric Rooney (Deputy Chief Dental Officer, NHS England)
  • Alan Stein (Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at University of Oxford)

Our range of workshops will further explore the key themes and how these are being implemented in Blackpool.

Centre for Early Child Development

Better Start is funded by The Big Lottery and partners to deliver lasting change so that Blackpool will be a place in which families raise happy, healthy children who grow up to take pride in belonging to, and giving back to, the community.

Better Start will improve services for 0-3 year olds and their families and every new baby in Blackpool will enjoy the early care and nurture they need for healthy development and to be ready for school.

Initially we are focussing our work in the seven wards where the local community faces the greatest challenges: Bloomfield, Brunswick, Claremont, Clifton, Park, Talbot and Victoria. Linked Children's Centres are Claremont, Grange Park, Mereside, Revoe, St Cuthbert's, Talbot & Brunswick and Thames.
