Event description

Description

Technology enables us to reach more people, more quickly and more economically than would be possible using traditional services alone. Big data can help us to better target our services and to ‘invest to save’ by supporting the right people to prevent issues escalating. Technology presents challenges too – privacy, the loss of face-to-face contact, unequal access to technologies and the risk that our interpretation of big data could produce stereotypes or stigmatise.

Join our guest speaker, Dr. Rufus Pollock, leading international economist and technologist to ask how we make the best use of technology and data without losing sight of people.

Rufus, founder and president of Open Knowledge will focus on the impact that data can have on our decision-making and how we can create data systems to support the public sector and build the communities and capabilities to use that insight to drive change.

Chaired by Essex County Council Executive Director Corporate Development, Jason Kitcat, this, the latest in a series of Innovation Talks will bring together academics, policy makers, commissioners, and experts from across Essex to discuss cutting edge ideas and approaches to solving some of the big issues facing public services.
