During this year’s Active Age Summit on October 17, Newcastle Science City will start the search for companies or a cross sector consortium to work with Keiro Ltd to offer the best integrated rehabilitation and support services for patients recovering from brain injury or neurological impairment.
Could you be part of that solution? Why not come and talk with us?
A growing number of people in the UK suffer from some form of neurological condition. This could be the result of ageing, or trauma from a stroke or accident.
Following trauma, or as soon as their condition is diagnosed, people need an array of services, support and advice to help them recover as quickly as possible, maintain their independence and give them the best possible quality of life in the years to come.
When people don’t get access to the assistance they need at the precise moment that they would gain most benefit from it, they may end up limiting their recovery and increasing their long term dependency. They could even find themselves back in hospital or in long term care. This is often because they can’t get access to suitably coordinated accommodation, rehabilitation, advice and support.
Newcastle Science City is working with KEIRO, an independent sector provider of specialist residential neurological rehabilitation services that wants to find the very best coordinated solution for helping people and their families return to as independent a life as possible in the community and effectively self-manage their condition, their health and their wellbeing.
We’re looking for a service that works; a service in which the patient gets the right care, the right support, the right technologies, the right advice and the right environment to recover. That means we’re open to innovation, hearing from those who can point us to how it’s been done well, but also from people and organisations with ideas on how it can be done better. And we recognise that those people might not just exist in the healthcare sector, but that innovation might come from anywhere.
KEIRO is looking to enter into partnership agreements with organisations that can come up with the best way of making this happen.
Newcastle Science City is holding an event on October 17 to provide more information on this opportunity. If you’re a provider of specialist community rehabilitative services, or a supplier or builder of accommodation, we’d love to see you there.
However, we’re also looking to meet people who might be able to offer a different way of looking at things, from people with design solutions to innovators with technologies that could make a difference. The successful consortium could include people from all sectors with expertise in looking after guests, or groups with knowledge or first-hand experience of what people need to help them recover and liove well most effectively.
The event will take place at the Newcastle City Library from 5:30pm on October 17. To be part of the solution; visit the event to hear more and talk to others.
