Innovolovement Get Serving
Tue 2 May 2017, 17:00 – 19:00 BST
Did you know that right now in the UK we throw away 19% of all the food we buy? That’s 7 million tonnes every year, the equivalent of nine Wembley stadiums full of food. Most wasted food will be in date and good enough to eat.
Something needs to change. Whether it’s to save money or the environment, the only way to bring about change is to raise awareness of these facts to make people think twice about throwing away food. Easy solutions could include donating unwanted food to food banks or simply finding recipes to use leftover food in the fridge.
This is where Innovolvement comes in. We are a Student Ambassador led scheme to raise awareness across University of Portsmouth on specific topics that need more attention. On Tuesday 2nd May 17:00-19:00, Innovolvement are hosting a badminton night to raise awareness and money for FoodCyle, a warm, welcoming space for people from the local community to join for free, tasty meals.
The event will include a short talk from a guest speaker at Foodcycle, who will give an overview of what they do as a charity and shed some light on the issue of food waste and what you can do to help. Entry will cost £3 for for the 2 hour event, and the money will go to directly to FoodCycle. It will be held at the Spinnaker Sports Centre from 17:00-19:00 on Tuesday 2nd May 2017.
