Hannah Duraid, Managing Director of The Great Escape will be speaking on the subject of "Do you need to be the best, or do you just need to be different? How to stand out in your marketplace"
Hannah & her business partner, Peter Lacole are the driving force behind The Great Escape, Sheffield’s largest live escape room experience, blurring the lines between the hum-drum of everyday life and the world of video games and movies where teams are locked in a room with only 45 minutes to escape. As a team, you have to search high and low & far and wide as you ferret around trying to solve a series of intricate puzzles. It’s a test of common sense, logic and friendship as the clock ticks down.
Hannah & Peter met in 2013 in Croatia while they were both travelling. They spent eight months travelling together before deciding to come back to the UK so Hannah could complete her PGCE at Sheffield Hallam University.
The travel-mad partners came up with the idea of a Crystal Maze-style escape game after seeing similar venues in other countries. They launched their first room, The Mad Scientist, in a converted warehouse in Sheffield in January 2015. Now followed by three more rooms, Great Escape has been voted Number 1 for fun on Trip Advisor. The business employs 15 staff and expands to Leeds in August 2016.
Hannah lives in Sheffield and was inspired by her dad who told her she could do anything. She has recently won Northern Power Woman ‘One to Watch’, Duke of York ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’, ‘Entrepreneurial Spark’, ‘Forward Ladies’ and Sue Ryder ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ and Yorkshire ‘42 under 42’ finalist.
