The Inside/Out Lecture Series is excited to present the final lecture of the 2024-2025 academic year, welcoming Ibrahim Ibrahim, managing director and principle of Portland Design. The lecture Human-Centric Placemaking focuses on how the shifts in retail help connect places to community, highlighting how designers can respond by rethinking traditional notions of ‘place’. Ibrahim advocates for the creation of emotionally resonant, community-oriented spaces that prioritise both human connection and individual experience. He goes on to examine the evolving interplay between physical and digital media in retail environments, highlighting how meaningful engagement can be nurtured across both.
Over a career spanning 30 years, Ibrahim has gained a strong understanding of consumers’ relationship with brands and their engagement with physical and digital environments. This understanding is built through deep insights into the future of consumerism, retail and brands and their impact on our cities and high streets.
