Description

Join our District Architect for a unique opportunity for a tour inside Clackmannan Tower and see what we've been doing to improve access to this historic site.

Originally built in the 14th century, Clackmannan Tower was an important medieval tower house. Built by King David II, it was sold to Sir Robert Bruce and inhabited by his descendants until it was abandoned and partially demolished in the 18th century. The main tower remained standing until mining subsidence caused a partial collapse in 1955.

On this Insight Tour hear from our District Architect about Historic Environment Scotlannd's (HES) current conservation works. We've been hard at work repairing and partially rebuilding this important structure. Since 2014, we have been delivering a works programme that will allow you to visit inside the tower house.. such as masonry works which have provided safer access to the upper parapet. These and other works have been done to make the tower more accessible while having the least impact on the historic fabric.

1pm - 3pm

Booking essential. Tickets for this event will close on Wednesday 5th June 2019 at 11:59 pm.

Please note: Spaces are limited to 20 places per tour. This event is suitable for ages 16+.

Due to the nature of this event and the condition of the site, participants are required to wear sturdy footwear. HES is committed to developing and promoting inclusive access for all, whilst being sensitive to our special historic environments. This tour includes ascending and descending steep stairs.
