INSPIRE is a national initiative coordinated by the Academy of Medical Sciences and supported by the Wellcome Trust. INSPIRE aims to light the fire of scientific enquiry in those students who might be tempted by an academic career. The University of Bristol is offering a broad range of activities, opportunities and incentives for Bristol students to engage with medical research teams. These opportunities have been developed by the INSPIRE committee (led by Tony Pickering and Liz Coulthard) through consultation with current students and with matched funding from the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute.
The next wave of INSPIRE awards have been made and recipients come together at the INSPIRE Showcase to present their work and to network with researchers at a variety of career stages. The Showcase also features senior clinical academics as keynote speakers – this year we are delighted to invite Jane Blazeby, Professor of Surgery, who's presentation is entitled: 'From slapstick to symphony: conducting surgical research of importance to patients, surgeons and the NHS'.
The presentations will be followed by drinks and nibbles.
