Event description
Refelctions on a trans experience in education

About this Event

As part of LGBT History month, we are delighted to host BSc Geography graduate Claire Birkenshaw on Wednesday 26 February 2020.

A truly inspirational transgender woman, role model and ambassador, Claire’s interests include improving the experiences of sexual and gender minority people in education. You’ll be able to hear about her journey or ‘gender safari’ (a phrase she uses) in education and her work as an Educationalist and Equality & Diversity Advocate. In this role, Claire uses her knowledge to break down myths, stereotypes and stigma that transgender children can experience.

Claire has been an inspirational speaker at many events, including the 2018 Roots of Empathy Speaker Series, Scotland’s third national Diversity Conference, HeadStart Wolverhampton Conference, among many others.

This event is free but registration is required.
