Inspiring Community Spaces
Tuesday, 9 May 2017 from 13:00 to 16:00 (BST)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
In this workshop we’ll explore what an inspiring community space means to you, and what you can do to create one. Creating spaces to have fun, play, learn and work with our neighbours enables us to deepen our connections with each other. Through this workshop we’ll share inspiring examples of what can be achieved when people come together, and we’ll explore some key ideas that can help shape community spaces where everyone is welcome. This workshop will be held in a unique venue, where we will be joined by some of those involved in setting up or running the space.
By the end of this workshop you will have:
- Gained a deeper knowledge of what makes a community space welcoming and inclusive
- Explored how to apply these ideas and design principles in order to create inclusive community spaces
- Increased your confidence to contribute to creating a welcoming community space in your neighbourhood
The course is facilitated by Lawrence Miller, who is part of the You’re Welcome team and works for Barnwood Trust (www.barnwoodtrust.org).
If you have a physical disability or mental health challenge and living in Gloucestershire on a low income, you may be able to apply for help with your travel costs. Please contact us to discuss your situation.

You're Welcome Workshops
Barnwood Trust has a programme of community building called You’re Welcome. It’s all about creating more welcoming and inclusive communities across Gloucestershire to help people do the things they enjoy, and get to know more people where they live. You’re Welcome is for everyone, from all walks of life, and that includes people for whom life can sometimes be tricky.
At the heart of You’re Welcome are our free workshops which offer fun and inspiring experiences to support you to grow more welcoming and inclusive communities. You’re invited to join us for one or a series of workshops which are all designed to enable you and the people you live among to get better connected. The workshops are open to everyone living and working in Gloucestershire, and are offered free of charge. If after reading through the programme you can’t find what you’re looking for then please give us a call to discuss your interests.
