PAUL LEVY “Approaching the Technological Singularity: How Your Digital Life is Going to Unmake Your Physical Life”
What will be like when over fifty percent of humanity is more than fifty percent connected (even physically) to the digital world? Is the Matrix coming true? Are the rise of Artificial Intelligence, robots and virtual reality something we should become excited about and embrace? Or is this a good time to frown a little, wake up and ask some careful questions? We are now getting closer to what writer Ray Kurzwell calls the technological singularity where we will be invited (and perhaps even forced) to physically interface with the digital world. Implants in our brains, the internet of things and places, the world of "surveillance capitalism. What do all of these things mean and why should we be both worried and excited by them. Paul argues that this tipping point is closer in time than we think and that our daily patterns of thinking, feeling and acting are already showing signs of our submission to the digital world. Will you willingly swallow the digital pill if it improves your memory? Have you heard that nano-robots can -perform life-saving surgery but also blow your organs to bits in the wrong hands? Would you hire a younger, better-looking android version of your wife, husband or partner? What have we got to gain and what might we lose as the digital realm overlays and even replaces the physical one? This is going to be a challenging ten minutes. A shocking look at the rise of the robots. I may even bring one to argue with. I am the author of the books Digital Inferno and The Poetry of Change. I gave what someone described as a shocking and disruptive talk at Inspiring Talks Brighton just over a year ago which was a wake-up call to take more conscious control of our digital lives, gaining the benefits without surrendering our freedom to it.twitter.com/cats3000

Most speakers will answer your questions at the end of their speeches.

Could you be our "RISKY BISCUIT?" Have you got something you want to say? We invite audience members who want to, to come onto the stage for 5 minutes and talk about something interesting, inspiring or motivating. No need to be shy we just ask that you don’t go on a political or religious rant. Other than that, we’d LOVE to hear about what projects you've got going on, what inspires you or just a little story! Just put your name down at the door. All Risky Biscuits go on after the break and get a badge of honour (literally).

*****************************************

Doors open at 7.30pm and the speakers will start at 8 pm. We’re upstairs in the Nightingale Room at The Grand Central pub next to Brighton Station (it’s a beautiful venue, don’t be put off by the football thing).

Learn new things, meet nice people and get inspired to transform. We look forward to seeing you.

Lots of Love, Your Host

Lisa Moore
