Description
Dee was elected as President of Scottish Rugby at the Unions AGM in 2018 – the first female for a Tier 1 Rugby Nation. Now retired, Dee was previously a police officer with Strathclyde Police and latterly Police Scotland. Her interest in rugby has been threaded throughout her career, having managed the Scotland Women U-18 and was a founding member of the women’s section at Oban Lorne RFC, of whom Dee is now an Honorary Club President. Dee has represented Scotland and GB in athletics at junior and master’s level.
Scottish Rugby is the governing body for rugby union in Scotland. Its role is to grow the game and inspire Scotland through rugby in line with our values of respect, leadership, achievement, engagement and enjoyment. Based at the BT Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh Scottish Rugby administers Scotland's international rugby teams, the country’s two professional clubs (Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors) as well as the domestic fixtures for clubs and schools across Scotland.
Glasgow Warriors are the pride of Glasgow and the only major professional sports team to represent the whole of Glasgow and the west of Scotland. The club competes on two of the biggest stages in world club rugby, the Guinness PRO14 and European Rugby Champions Cup. Edinburgh Rugby has been fielding a rugby team since 1872. The club represent Edinburgh and the east of Scotland in the Guinness PRO14 and European Rugby Challenge Cup.
We are excited to be able to welcome Dee, fresh from the Rugby World Cup in Japan, to our award winning new Campus.
Why should I attend? Come and hear from someone at the top of their field who can share insights into their experience and learn how success can take different forms for different people – one size doesn’t fit all, and not all paths are direct.
Who can attend? Anyone: professional or student or otherwise. Plus it is open to those out with UWS and it’s not just open to women, everyone is welcome. (Please note this event is not suitable for under-12s)
When is it: Wednesday 4th December, 12 noon
Where is it: University of the West of Scotland’s award winning Lanarkshire Campus, Stephenson Place, Hamilton International Technology Park, South Lanarkshire, G72 0LH
How much will it cost me? Nothing. It is ticketed but free to attend. Though spaces are limited so if you change your mind after booking a ticket (that’s not a problem, we realise life can get in the way sometimes) please let us know so someone else can get the chance to take your spot.
What previous delegates have said about Inspiring Women Events:
I want to attend more events like this!
This is the first Inspiring Women event I have attended. I would encourage others to attend and would like to return again next year.
The Inspiring Women Lecture Series
The UWS Inspiring Women Lecture Series was created to help provide a platform of inspiration and support for students and staff within the University and it is open to all. Since its inception the series has blossomed into one of the main events within the University calendar, attracting speakers with a broad spectrum of backgrounds, interests and experience. This year’s series is an exciting and innovative mix of speakers and events, continuing to encourage everyone to be inspired, to be bold, to be ambitious, to break boundaries and challenge thinking. To dream, to believe and to achieve.
