10.00 Opening Plenary – How to innovate with confidence - Lucy Gower, Founder and Director, Lucidity
Innovation seems to mean something different depending on who you ask, so it’s no wonder so many organisations struggle with how to innovate with confidence. For charities are under pressure to raise more money to meet the growing demand for services amidst growing regulation and restrictions on data use, innovation is a survival strategy. It is not just the realm of green bean bags and whacky ideas, it is about solving strategic problems, spotting opportunities and making good ideas happen to maximize your income and impact.
Attend this plenary to learn proven innovation tactics from successful companies, entrepreneurs and charities. You will leave with a set of tools to build your innovation skills, including how to develop your personal creativity, build your resilience and manage expectations - because the simple fact is that not all of your ideas will be successful.

Arguably there has never been a more challenging time to work in the third sector. Fundraisers must stay on top of their game in an environment of tough competition and changing legislation whilst under the glare of the media spotlight and in a world that is wary. Delivering more for less, multi-tasking and operating in a cycle of constant change have become our 'new normal'. If we are to survive - and indeed thrive - then resilience is key. This interactive session uses a mixture of case studies, research and personal reflection to bring the topic of resilience to life. Expect some fun and some essential tips to take away.
Using public affairs and policy messages to make your organisation fundable - Kevin Kibble, Chief Executive,

Using the Nurture Group Network as a case study, this session looks at how to construct messages from public affairs and policy work to incorporate in fundraising messages that resonate. How integrating messages about evidence and impact give added credibility to your asks.

Economics and demographics of the South West an expert overview from the Office of National Statistics - Sebnem Oguz , Economic Adviser; Head of Devolution Statistics, ONS
The presentation will include an overview and comparison (with national data) of key economic, socio-economic and demographic trends for the South West region based on the latest official data such as household incomes, industrial structure, productivity and internal migration. Wherever possible, similar information for each of the local authorities within the South West region will be covered.

Insight into charitable trust funding decisions – Isobel Michael, NSP Philanthropy
Sharpen your trust fundraising skills by gaining an insight into how difficult it is to make decisions about funding applications. This is a practical session where, as a small group, you will assess applications and allocate grants from a tight funding budget. We will review and debate decisions, which will be enlightening and surprising at times. This will help you to understand how best to write and present trust applications, and give you a personal insight into the process of making decisions between applications
