Frequently asked questions

What exactly is a sketch walk?

Taking a sketchbook for a walk, gives you a new way to enjoy your surroundings and really take in the environment. In order to sketch we slow down and relax into observing. We will use some simple materials such as pencils and charcoals but also some found items, beach charcoal or seaweed.

Who is this sketch walk for?

We welcome people with all levels of experience. Mostly, people who remember liking drawing and find that they don't get a chance in their busy lives. Some times seasoned professionals but no experience is necessary, just a willingness to have a good time

Where will the sketch walk take place?

We will meet at the Glorious Oyster and then head down the track to the Sandhills car park and then down onto the beach. The ground can be uneven so a degree of fitness is required.

Is the event weather-dependent?

We will only cancel a walk in an Amber Weather warning! we are a hardy bunch in north Devon!

Is the location accessible for people with mobility issues?

The location is not accessible for people with mobility issues.

Will there be opportunities to purchase refreshments?

Yes from the Glorious Oyster at the end of the walk, you are also able to pre-order your lunch!

What art materials should I bring?

We recommend that you bring your own sketch book but we will provide you with a paper roll and a zine. You can bring pencils and a fine black pen 0.5ish if you like.

Will there be any instruction or guidance?

Yes both Emma and Rachel will help you "get your eye in" and enjoy some playful mark making experiments.

What is your refund policy?

We offer refunds upto 48 hours in advance however we are unable to refund late cancellations. This is due to the seasonal nature of our business and difficulty in filling spots last minute.

Can we book on the day?

We recommend booking in advance so that we can give you the event details in plenty of time, but there might be last minute availability so get in touch and ask! We also operate a wait list for spaces in peak season.

Are there toilets on the walk?

We recommend that people use the public toilets at the beginning and end of the walk as the majority of the walk takes place down on the beach where there are no facilities.

Can we take photos?

Yes with permission! We ask all sketch walkers for permission to use images on our social media pages, but you are welcome to photograph the beach and surrounding areas.
