Insulating Traditional Buildings: Natural Insulation Systems

This workshop will discuss and demonstrate materials and methods for insulating traditional buildings. Participants will hear a presentation on the opportunities and challenges in insulating historic and traditional buildings and considerations in their specification, before discovering a range of different materials and systems for walls, floors and roofs first hand with a practical nature.

The workshop will take place at Historic Environment Division Moira Works Depot and will be led by specialist materials suppliers Ecological Building Systems.

This workshop is open to all who are interested in learning more about insulating older buildings, which may include contractors, architects and specifiers and building owners.

Important information for attendees:

Please be aware that this session is taking place in a working depot. Attendees should wear sensible footwear, and it is advised that attendees wear warm clothing/ layers as activities will be taking place semi-outdoors.

Getting here:

There is limited parking at the depot, and participants are encouraged to take public transport wherever possible. The depot is located next door to Moira Train station, which has frequent trains to/ from Belfast. If attendees will require a car at the depot, please contact the event organiser to allow monitoring of car parking availability.

Trainers Overview:

This session is delivered by Ecological Building Systems, a supplier of environmentally friendly building products and systems, with offices in Co. Meath and Cumbria. Ecological Building Systems regularly deliver technical and practical training in the use of their systems, and have supplied products and services to a number of high-profile historic building projects. These projects include, 18 Ormond Quay, Dublin; the Bank Buildings, Belfast; Market House, Enniscorthy and Bailieborough Courthouse, as well as private residences.
