About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

What is SFBT?Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a goal-oriented, strengths-based approach that supports clients in identifying their preferred futures and building on what’s already working. Rather than focusing on problems, SFBT centres on possibility, progress, and practical steps forward — however small.

About the workshopThis experiential session explores two underused but powerful elements of SFBT: visualisation and the use of silence.

  • Visualisation invites clients to imagine in detail what life will look like when things are better. It deepens engagement, strengthens motivation, and helps both practitioner and client stay connected to outcomes that matter.
  • Silent sessions allow space for reflection, emotion, and insight to emerge without pressure to speak. When facilitated with care and intention, silence becomes an active, therapeutic tool — not a gap, but a gateway.

Who is this for? This training is ideal for professionals already familiar with SFBT who want to expand their practice using creative and relational techniques. Suitable for:

  • Counsellors and therapists
  • Youth workers and social workers
  • Family practitioners and school-based staff
  • Coaches and support workers

These techniques can be used effectively with a wide range of clients, including those who are neurodivergent, affected by trauma, emotionally overwhelmed, or simply unsure of how to begin. They are especially valuable when words are limited — and when hope feels distant.

What you’ll gain:

  • A deeper understanding of the role of imagery and silence in SFBT
  • Practical tools to introduce and facilitate visualisation
  • Confidence in holding silence as a therapeutic space
  • Reflection on your own presence and pacing in sessions
  • Insight into when and how to use these tools with different client groups

Join Ayse Adil and Joe Lettieri of Family Based Solutions for a thoughtful, skills-based session designed to enhance your SFBT work through presence, imagination, and trust in the client’s own process.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be trained in SFBT to attend this session?

A basic understanding of Solution Focused Brief Therapy is recommended, as this workshop builds on core principles with more advanced techniques.

What is visualisation in SFBT?

Visualisation helps clients picture their preferred future in rich detail — enhancing motivation, clarity, and connection to change.

What do you mean by “silent sessions”?

Silent sessions involve intentional use of quiet space in the therapeutic process. Silence can allow reflection, self-regulation, and insight to emerge.

Who are these techniques suitable for?

These methods are especially useful with clients who are neurodivergent, overwhelmed, traumatised, or find it hard to talk. They support emotional safety and autonomy.

What will I take away from this workshop?

You’ll leave with practical tools to guide visualisation and hold silence effectively, as well as insight into pacing, presence, and when to use these approaches.

Will the session be interactive?

Yes. Expect a reflective, experiential format with opportunities to observe, practise, and discuss applications in your own work.

Is this suitable for school-based staff or youth workers?

Absolutely. These techniques can be adapted for use with children, teens, and adults in a range of support settings.
