Event description

Description

IP isn’t limited to creative ideas like branding, videos/photos and technical products, but can arise in everyday work activities in spreadsheets, reports, business plans and data analysis.

The big question is who owns those IP rights? Getting it wrong can be costly and have far reaching consequences.

Join us for a discussion on:

- what is meant by ‘Intellectual Property’

- ownership of IP in the commercial context

- what employers and companies should consider when employing creative individuals or engaging service providers

- how to protect IP rights

- the impact of, and issues arising from, using IP you don't own

- how to enforce your IP rights

About the speakers

Chris Hovenden, Employment Chris worked for four years as an-house employment lawyer at international media company ‘Discovery Channel’. He then spent a year as a full time sports journalist working for Time Inc.’s cycling titles, but found the lure of returning to the legal world too strong.

He has been part of Cripps’ specialist employment law team since March 2016 and continues to work as a sports journalist on a freelance basis. Chris utilises his unique background to provide clear and concise commercial advice to his clients.

Will Charlesworth, Intellectual Property Will is a solicitor in Cripps’ Commercial Dispute Resolution team, specialising in Intellectual Property disputes.

As an IP lawyer, Will has represented clients including small start-ups; SMEs; FTSE 250 and AIM listed companies; an international fashion house; and several high-profile individuals in the media.

Before becoming a lawyer, Will worked at an electronics company in Hong Kong, giving him a valuable insight into how a business operates ‘on the ground’ and how technology and IP can be exploited internationally.

The seminar will be followed by drinks and canapés
