Intensive EMDR peer support group: Charlie Tweed
Overview
Organized by Dr. Sarah Butler and the intensive therapy peer support group.
This session will be an opportunity to discuss with peers the pros and cons of intensive EMDR and explore different ways of working. This is an opportunity to get up to date with what your peers are doing and how they are progressing with their practice.
Our guest is Dr Charlie Tweed. Charlie is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist working across the NHS and third sector, with specialist expertise in trauma, resilience, and performance under pressure.
He brings over twenty-one years of military experience in both medical and non-medical roles, serving in regular and reserve capacities. His operational deployments span multiple overseas tours in high-risk, austere, and remote environments, including the Submarine Service and Counter Terrorism. In these settings, alongside responsibility for physical healthcare, he worked extensively with teams exposed to extreme stress, supporting mental health, resilience, and decision-making in life-threatening circumstances.
These experiences led him to specialise in Military Psychiatry. He is now a trauma-informed clinician, working with veterans and other high-risk or high-performance populations affected by conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, moral injury, and complex trauma.
He is the founder of a company delivering human performance, mental health, and resilience programmes, as well as therapeutic interventions, to a wide range of groups, including intensive care and healthcare professionals, elite athletes, veterans, and corporate teams.
His work focuses on translating lessons from intensive therapy, trauma psychiatry, and high-pressure operational environments into practical strategies that support clinician wellbeing, team performance, and sustainable psychological resilience.
