Event description

Description

After it was discouraged by the British during the colonisation of India, Kathak revival movements were co-developed by Muslim and Hindu artists. It is a dance form famed for its storytelling power and likely evolved from an oral tradition to which mime and gesture were added later. In this workshop, Amina Khayyam will reveal the stories behind some performance sequences and show you how to perform them yourself. A fun, interactive workshop suitable for those aged 11+. All children aged 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult and registered here.

In 2007, she set up her own company, Amina Khayyam Dance Company which uses Khathak as the core narrative.
