This workshop will provide a range of resources to support the introduction of interdisciplinary (between two or more academic disciplines) and transdisciplinary learning (between academia and wider society) for sustainability into your teaching. Building on the concepts and practices introduced in the systems thinking, futures thinking, and problem-centred learning for sustainability for ESD workshops in this series – interdisciplinary learning supports student sustainability competency development through creating learning environments that simulate those that they may encounter outside of higher education when engaging with sustainability challenges. The benefits and limitations of different teaching approaches to interdisciplinary learning for sustainability such as co-teaching, active learning partnerships (collaboration of student projects between two different programmes for example), and interdisciplinary module and programme approaches will be discussed.

The workshop is suited to both staff that are new to interdisciplinary learning for sustainability, and staff that already include interdisciplinary learning but want to explore how they can enhance current teaching practice to enhance sustainability.
