Do I need a degree to train to teach?

Yes, you do on this route, ideally at 2.2 or above OR you must be in your final year of a degree that is awarded in July 2026.

I already have  Student Finance for my undergraduate degree - can I access Student Finance again?

Yes, you can access Student Finance again for this one year course.

What other qualifications do I need?

Accepted Answer

As well as a degree, all trainees need Maths & English Language GCSE at Level 4 or above. Primary trainees need Science as well. You can sit an equivalency exam in these GCSE subjects which must be obtained by September 26, so can apply before you have done this.

What if my degree is from overseas?

Accepted Answer

You will need to obtain a statement of comparability from ENIC https://www.enic.org.uk/individuals/statement-of-comparability. This will tell us what level your degree is and if you need to sit equivalence tests for any of your GCSE -level qualifications.

Question 6

Do I obtain a PGCE on this route?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we award both QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and a PGCE on our route.
