About this event

This workshop explores how Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) can help individuals break dysfunctional intergenerational patterns. Participants will learn how to adapt IPT strategies for assessing family dynamics, recognising core interpersonal issues, and implementing change within families.

Who is the training for?

This workshop is suitable for newly qualified and experiences IPT Therapists looking to deepen their understanding of intergenerational dysfunction.

Key Topics

Early Phase:

Identify when relational difficulties began using a symptom review, inventory and timeline

Middle Phase:

Use IPT strategies to address the chosen focal area—processing unresolved grief, navigating role transitions, resolving disputes, or improving relational skills. Introduce genograms to map intergenerational patterns and explore repeating family dynamics. Apply interventions like role play, emotional processing, and reframing narratives to shift dysfunctional behaviours.

End Phase:

Review progress using the interpersonal inventory and reinforce positive relational changes. Identify high-risk situations for relapse and develop strategies for maintaining healthier communication and emotional connections. Encourage long-term use of IPT techniques to sustain improvements beyond therapy.

A CPD attendance certificate will be issued following the workshop.
