About this event

Half square triangles are a really versatile technique, which can be used for so many designs. This one is known variously as twisted ribbon, twisted pole, twisted helix or twisted DNA. With a completed size of 72.5”x23” / 175cm x 55cm, this could be used either as a table runner or across the bottom of a double bed.

You will have the option of making a two colour version or a three colour version. You could choose to use Christmas fabrics for a seasonal table runner, or make something more neutral for use all year round. Detailed instructions will be provided for the version you decide to make.

If you would like to make a set of six matching table mats after the class, we are able to put together fabric bundles for that for an additional fee.

On the first day, you will cut out all of your pieces and should make good progress towards finishing your runner top.

On the second day, you will layer up your runner, make a good start on your quilting, and possibly even attach your binding, depending on how much quilting you want to do.

Following the class, it is likely that you will need to take your quilt away to finish binding.

MATERIALS

All materials for your runner top are included in the cost of this class, whether you choose the two colour or three colour version. We will also include fabric for backing and binding, and your wadding. Fabrics can be chosen from a range priced at £8.00 per metre. If you would like to use one of our lovely designer fabrics, an additional charge will be payable.

You will need to bring a rotary cutter and 24” quilting ruler. If you would like us to source these, please let us know in plenty of time, so we can order them in for you.

You are welcome to come into the shop before the class, if you would like to choose your fabrics and make a start on cutting out. Please do let us know if you are planning to do this, so that we can ensure that a cutting guide can be provided for your chosen runner.

Tea, coffee, soft drinks and homemade cake are included.

Skill level: Intermediate

As for all of our sewing workshops, you must be able to use a sewing machine with a reasonable level of skill. On that basis, you should have either completed an “introduction to sewing machines” session, or have used a sewing machine yourself to undertake simple tasks like joining two pieces of fabric. If you have not done this, this course will not be suitable.

Although basic techniques will be used and full tuition will be given, there is quite a lot to get through in this class. You will probably need to finish binding your runner after the class, so you will need to have the skills to do this independently.

You will also need to feel confident in cutting out accurately using a ruler and rotary cutter, although some support will be given with this.

Terms and conditions:

Our workshops are open to individuals aged fourteen and upwards. However, a responsible adult must remain on site at all time with minors.

Full payment is required at the time of booking to secure your place.

Any further details, along with anything you need to bring with you, will be sent out via email in advance of the scheduled date.

All workshops will begin promptly at the scheduled time, so please ensure that you arrive early enough to get yourself settled in and have a coffee and cake before the class is due to start.

Cancellations:

For cancellations with more than two weeks’ notice, a refund will be given, less a 25% administration fee. Cancellations with less two weeks’ notice are non-refundable, unless we are able to fill your place.

All workshops will clearly be marked as being suitable for beginners, intermediate or advanced. When booking a workshop, you are responsible for assessing your own abilities. Happy Hare cannot be held responsible if you book the wrong level of workshop or do not read the description of the workshop correctly. A refund will not be given for booking a workshop which you later feel is not at the right level for you, unless the cancellation is made more than two weeks’ prior to the scheduled date.

Should we need to cancel a class due to circumstance beyond our control or limited numbers, a full refund will be given. Alternatively, you will be given the option to book onto another workshop.

Please note: when making a booking it is assumed that our terms and conditions have been read and approved.
