"My Soul is Fed with Needle and Thread"

An Intermediate Sewing Day with Your Sewing Machine

Who is this day for?

This class is designed for those who are confident using their sewing machine but would like to explore sewing zips, buttonholes, and appliqué. You may have completed my Beginners Sewing Day, or you might just want to gain confidence with these techniques.

Some people simply love to sew socially and enjoy the creative process in a friendly group of like-minded individuals.

What will I make during the day?

This 5-hour session (with half an hour for lunch, plus time at the start and end for setup and cleanup) is held at Westbury Arts Centre, where we’ll have plenty of space to learn and create.

Throughout the day, you’ll get comfortable:

  • Inserting a zip
  • Making a buttonhole
  • Learning how to add appliqué to an item

All printed fabrics used in the class are designed by Steph.

What do you get in Steph’s classes?

Steph will guide you through every step in this relaxed, informal, and fun class.

You’ll receive two kits:

  1. A kit to make a zip pouch
  2. A kit to make an appliquéd cushion with a buttonhole fastening

Yes, you will complete two projects in just one day!

Steph will provide hints and tips throughout the session to help you refine your sewing skills.

All of this takes place in a lovely, inspiring environment at Westbury Arts.

What do you need to bring to class?

  • Sewing machine (please make sure it works)

Testimonials

"I am attending the beginners' ‘Learn to Sew with a Machine’ class that Steph runs. It is fantastic, and I highly recommend it! After just three weeks, I am able to sew a drawstring bag, a reversible tote bag, and a cushion cover with a button fastening. I never thought I would be able to do that! After three years of school needlework lessons, I couldn't make anything!! Steph breaks everything down into simple steps and is so relaxed and patient that even a complete beginner like me can do it! I can't wait for the next lesson."Diane

"Steph is a great teacher! She gives you lots of practical, hands-on activities where you actually produce something creative at the end of it. Through her sewing classes, she has really inspired me to learn more."

Steph Thannhauser has over 35 years of sewing experience. In fact, she can’t remember a day when she wasn’t making or sewing something. She started young and has never stopped. Steph did a degree in Printed Textiles at Loughborough College of Art and Design then subsequently worked in-house and in freelance, creating art for many different products and clients. Her favourite thing to do is design patterns which can then be used in sewing projects.

Teaching people to sew and sharing her love of creativity was a natural progression for Steph. She teaches in the Milton Keynes area but is also planning to teach online too.
