Internal Family Systems: Making A Start (and Getting Curious)
Overview
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is arguably one of today’s most popular transformational therapies with clients and professionals alike. At a trauma conference in the UK in the autumn of 2025, most if not all presenters used the language of ‘parts’ regardless of their specialism.
Whether you are a layperson or a mental health professional, this book launch is for you if you are not already familiar with IFS and if you are already a fan. Come and meet the author, Emma E. Redfern, and the book’s IFS editor Ash Chudgar. They have created a new, engaging, accessible and practical IFS book written for the general reader. Their intention is to facilitate inner curiosity and acceptance of parts; their suggestion is that readers and attendees come to know from the inside that parts are not problems to be solved but valuable inner family or team members who profoundly influence and shape who we are. Leading with one’s inner curious presence (what IFS calls ‘Self’), it is possible to meet and get to know parts even outside of the weekly therapy hour. Meeting and being with oneself in this way can be truly life changing and enriching.
Come and explore!
About the Book:
What if the key to self-acceptance isn’t about fixing things that are ‘wrong’, but about listening, and responding to, the voices inside you?
Internal Family Systems: Making A Start (and Getting Curious) persuades us to step away from the idea of a single, unified self, and instead to explore the rich, meaningful and profoundly influential inner world that shapes who we are.
Drawing on her clinical experience as a leading IFS professional, and on her personal journey, Emma E. Redfern introduces Internal Family Systems as a compassionate, curious and healing approach that sees our inner struggles not as signs of weakness, but as evidence of our mind’s curious creativity and resilience. Through case studies, metaphors and interactive exercises, she reveals how our ‘parts’ – from the inner critic to the anxious child – are not enemies to be silenced, but protectors and messengers longing to be heard.
With practical tools for self-discovery, this accessible guide emphasizes the importance of gentle, patient exploration. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, dealing with internal or external conflicts, or seeking more of a sense of yourself, Internal Family Systems is a warm and wise roadmap for navigating your inner world and fostering meaningful psychological transformation.
