International Day of the Midwife 2017
Fri 5 May 2017, 09:30 – 16:00 BST
All current student midwives in training at UWS are invited to attend The International Day of the Midwife on Friday 5th May. This event will be a celebration of midwifery. It will be hosted by Dr Mary Ross-Davie the Director of the Royal College of Midwives, who will lead the celebrations. Other attendees include Ann Holmes, Chief Midwifery Advisor & Associate Chief Nursing Officer and Erica Clarkson and Claire Jamieson who will run a workshop on Scotland’s baby boxes.
Why not submit an entry into the cake decorating competition, for the non bakers you could knit or crochet a midwife. Inspired by the campaign led by @knitted midwife (aka Jenny Hall and Lindsay Hobbs) we shall be seeking donations of knitted or crochet midwives to be sold off to raise funds for our nominated charity.
UWS are grateful to Amy Kember for permission to link to her blog, where you can access a pattern for a crochet midwife, here is the link:-
UWS are also grateful to Kimara McCombs Wise for her permission to link to her website to access a pattern for a knitted midwife, here is the link:-
Feel free to use your own imagination to decorate/dress and adorn your midwives however you like. The more the merrier. All donations of knitted and crocheted midwives can be handed in to any member of the midwifery team. We look forward to a colourful display at our International Day of the Midwife Celebration.
All students will be entilted to placement hours for attending the International Day of the Midwife.
The conference will be a non-uniform event but it would be great if everyone can wear thier "Hello My Name Is.... " badge.
During lunch we will be running a bottle stall, please feel free to donate a bottle to this event, be as creative as you like when picking your bottle... Who knows what you might win.
