Event description
Learn more about International humanitarian law - a set of rules that aims to limit the effects of armed conflict.

About this Event

We’re all too aware of the horrors that armed conflict causes around the world. Is there anything that can be done to at least control its worse excesses?

International humanitarian law is a set of rules that aims, for humanitarian reasons, to limit the effects of armed conflict. As well as protecting people who are not participating in the hostilities, it also attempts to restrict the means and methods of warfare.

Sarah Guy, a lecturer in Law at Plymouth University, is going to talk to us about the foundations and core principles of International Humanitarian Law. She’ll discuss not just the law itself, but it’s social and political context, and will look at some case studies to help understand what it means in practice.
