About this Event

Education Cities and Stanley Park High SPIRA

are co-hosting this international event to:

  • Explore pioneering pedagogy and learning spaces at Stanley Park High
  • Share innovative practice
  • Exchange ideas
  • Make connections and develop an international network

Education Cities

Education Cities is a pioneering initiative with the primary mission to develop the art of collaboration - in the classroom, in school, in the city, in the country and worldwide. In 2017, the organisation received international recognition by the Finnish HundrED program that chose it as one of the hundred most inspirational education initiatives in the world today. An Education City shifts from working in a pyramid paradigm to working in a network paradigm. This definition entails weaving a citywide network. A network of collaborations aimed at working to solve the city's challenges.

Stanley Park High SPIRA

Stanley Park High is an innovative Building Schools of the Future One School Pathfinder. Housed within a vision driven environment, it has broken free of a one-size-fits-all approach in order to ignite a passion for learning. It's project-based approach blends academic, creative, professional and technical learning by exposing students to a responsive curriculum, all undertaken in an impressive array of immersive learning environments. The school prides itself on its philosophy of focusing on relationships and pupil well being and was duly recognised as Secondary School of the year 2016 and in 2018 was named by education charity the Edge Foundation as a “beacon of hope” in education, “swimming against the stream”.

WORKSHOPS INFORMATION

Our conference will offer two kinds of sessions for our delegates:

Pre-organised workshops which will enable a deeper dive into practises at Stanley Park High

AND

Sessions which are generated on the day by delegates from all over the world, who will share their innovative work

THE WORKSHOPS

1. Personalised Curricula

Learning Programmes are becoming more and more standardised in schools. Whilst this benefits many students, others are becoming increasingly disengaged. Similarly, teachers are becoming deliverers of curricula rather than designers. This workshop will explore how Stanley Park High has developed an award winning curriculum that enables all to thrive.

2. Authentic Assessment

Numerical data, frequent testing, targets, flight paths and tracking have come dominate the language and assessment practises of schools. This workshop will explore a viable alternative, one that puts the child at the centre of an assessment process which enables judgement on the intellectual accomplishments that are worthwhile, significant, and meaningful. Our Student-Led Conferences will be a key feature of this.

3. Leading Learning

The world is undergoing an immense period of change, but education struggles to keep pace. It many senses, it continues to react rather than creating the new. Technology is not solely the answer, but it has a fundamental role to play. This workshop will explore how Chromebooks are supporting students in leading their own learning

DELEGATE GENERATED WORKSHOPS

The concept is fairly simple. In these sessions no topics have been predetermined, no keynote speakers have been scheduled and no panels have been arranged. These will be brought to life by the experience and expertise of our conference attendees from all over the world.

If you are interested in running such a session, please email Maria Walker, mwalker@suttonmail.org. She won’t ask you about your subject matter, you simply declare that on the day of the conference and we will provide you with a learning space to meet your needs.

Note

Each of the Workshops / Sessions will last 30 minutes, and there will be the opportunity for each delegate to immerse themselves in four of these.
