International migration, migrant integration, and multiculturalism in South Korea: focus on North Korean refugees/defectors
Join Professor Yoon of the Department of Sociology at Korea University for his discussion around migration and integration of migrants with a particular focus on North Koreans in South Korea.
The rapid increase of immigrants, including refugees, asylum seekers and especially North Korean defectors in South Korea and the urgent need to accommodate and integrate these newcomers into mainstream society has led to the rise of interest in multiculturalism. Professor Yoon has critiqued the use of "multiculturalism" in public discourse and government policy, and engaged in ongoing research and dialogue in migrant integration and its challenges in South Korea.
