Description

Increasing women’s representation in STEM fields has been a major social reform across the globe. It is a key aspect of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 which demands full and effective participation of women in all levels of life.

This one-day event invites:
1. women who study/work in Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths (STEM);
2. women who are considering pursuing studies/careers in STEM;
3. particularly, women PhD students, ECRs, and other academics in STEM;
4. all others who are interested in and/or wish to support women’s participation in STEM.

This event is also keen to welcome LGBTQ+ groups in STEM fields to join us and discuss potential ways to challenge gender binaries in STEM and beyond.

To:

1. listen to how women find their ways into STEM in China, Serbia, and the United Kingdom (UK) (i.e. PhD studies, academic jobs, etc.);
2. learn from the experiences of a number of women who currently study/work in STEM as researchers;
3. join an international network of women researchers in STEM and discuss potential future collaborations.

Registration is free, but places are limited.

In addition, this event offers bursaries to selected participants, covering necessary travel expenses. To apply, please email Dr Yuwei Xu (yuwei.xu@port.ac.uk)

Organised by

In the School of Education and Sociology, we offer a dynamic environment for the study and research of issues relating to childhood and education in its broadest sense, from aspects relating to (young) children’s learning and development, BME, gender, special needs, (cyber)bullying and mental health, to pedagogy and teaching and learning in post-16 and HE settings.

Current research projects include collaborative work with local charities and councils on projects to do with young careleavers, cyberbullying, social and emotional aspects in relation to learning in schools and early years settings.

We host a programme of seminars throughout the year and an annual conference.
