SPEAKERS

Dr Joseph Baines is Senior Lecturer in International Political Economy in the Department of European & International Studies (EIS) at King’s College London. Dr Baines will rely on global value chain analysis to provide an overview of the complex patterns of conflict and competition between the US and China, with particular reference to the supply chain of Apple Inc., the world’s largest firm by market capitalisation.

Dr Soohyun Lee is Senior Lecturer in Korean & East Asian Political Economy at EIS. Dr Lee will focus on the heightened global competition for innovation between the US and China, with a focus particularly on the role of the state. Dr Lee will also draw on the experiences of South Korea and Japan in fostering skills and innovations.

Dr Jenna Marshall is Lecturer in International Studies at EIS. Dr Marshall’s intervention takes into account a critique of methodological whiteness to address how the field of IPE has elided the place of imperial conditions in global ordering, drawing more specifically on development theorising as upholding racial hegemony.

Professor Magnus Ryner is Professor of International Political Economy at EIS. Professor Ryner’s talk will be titled ‘Two Cheers for Neo-Realism.’

Dr Roberto Roccu (chair) is Reader in International Political Economy at EIS, and he will chair the roundtable.
