Event description

Description

China is now the world’s second largest economy and one of the fastest growing consumer markets. Increased domestic consumption, rapid urbanisation and a growing tide of Chinese tourism and investment overseas are all creating huge opportunities for UK companies of all sizes from a wide range of business sectors.

Hosted at City Business Library, in association with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), this event will provide an introduction for UK companies looking to do business in Hong Kong and China. Understand the main opportunities and challenges and learn about the support available for businesses looking to export. There will be time for Q&A and networking after the presentations.

Agenda

17:30 - Registration and refreshments

18:00 – 18:10 - Introduction from Alex Leader to City Business Library

18:10 – 18:25 – David Marsden (Bio below), Hong Kong Trade Development Council

David’s presentation will focus on Hong Kong’s important role in relation to the Greater Bay Area initiative. He will show how Hong Kong can facilitate the region’s global ventures (for example in technology commercialisation, IP trading and cross-border investment), lead companies to “go out” and engage in the global economy and lead the whole Greater Bay Area to integrate with the rest of the world.

18:25 – 18:45 – Kevin Price (Bio below), Frattempo

Kevin’s presentation will focus on how export opportunities can be maximised and will identify some proven methods to compare and prioritise markets, assess local market partners, highlight the consequences of defining export priorities and identify the main areas of mitigating risk.

18:45 – 19:00 – Case study: Mark Driver, co-owner of Rathfinny Estate

Sussex boutique winery Rathfinny Estate chose Hong Kong as its first export market to debut two vintage Sussex Sparkling wines in September 2018, following the UK launch of its Sussex Sparkling wines in April 2018. In this presentation co-owner, Mark Driver, will share their story, including the challenges and opportunities they encountered and the tips they learned when exporting to Hong Kong.

19:00 – 19:30 – Q&A

19:30 – 20:30 - Networking and refreshments

Please note this is a working agenda and will be updated as and when we have more information.
