Description

Bristol Women's Voice are marking International Women’s Day 2018 with an exciting and packed programme of music, interactive theatre, workshops, hot topic debates and much, much more. Come and celebrate 100 years since (some) British women gained the vote. Bristol Women's Voice are taking over City Hall to remember the influential suffrage movement in Bristol and draw attention to the successes we have achieved and the challenges still ahead. With a crèche and child friendly activities, this is the biggest International Women’s Day event in Bristol.

The day will open with a performance from Bristol's female brass band, Burning Brass. The Wonderful Women Awards will celebrate the women making a difference in our city. Bristol Women's Voice will launch ‘The Women Who Built Bristol’, a new book celebrating the women who made Bristol what it is today (available to buy here). A women’s guided history walk with Naomi Paxton will take participants up Park Street and around the Triangle to visit key sites of women’s history. The Bristol Radical History Group will explore women’s history with talks about black and asian women and the suffrage movement, the Lady Blackshirts and women in pre-history. Inclusive singing, dance, creative writing, photography and theatre workshops will celebrate the creativity of Bristol's women. Panel talks about representation, women in the media and sex work will open up discussions about some of the big issues that face us today. Workshops on health and wellbeing, maternity discrimination, recognising domestic violence and FGM will tackle pressing issues that face Bristol women.

Dreadnought South West's HLF-funded Rebellious Sounds Archive will be collecting stories of women's activism for the archive - get in touch to share your story!

Become a member of Bristol Women's Voice here.

You DO NOT have to have a ticket to attend, but it will make entry quicker on the day. The building is accessible - if you have any access needs that you would like to discuss with us please email info@bristolwomensvoice.org.uk.

Children are welcome to attend workshops and talks. The creche facility will be managed in two hour slots.
