Event description
An exciting new exhibition by photographer Paloma Tendero, painter Shannon Bono and artist and ceramicist, Camilla Hanney to celebrate IWD.

About this Event

In this radical reimagining of female bodily experiences, artists Shannon Bono, Camilla Hanney and Paloma Tendero, explore what it means to inhabit a female body today, and how we can break myths, taboos and archetypal representations of women’s bodies that have and continue to dominate visual culture. Though their works are visually distinct and deploy different medium - painting, photography, sculpture and installation - they share an iconoclastic vision of female bodies that forces us to reconsider the ways we are represented.

Join us for a conversation with the artists and curator Charlotte Jansen on International Women's Day 8th March, 11.30am - 1pm. Book here, ticket include Bloody Mary's from Ketel One Vodka.

Shannon Bono is a painter whose mission is to advocate for the presence of black bodies; captured through scale, colour and anatomical manipulation. The naked bodies in her work resists the negative colonial stereotype imagery of a black body and she uses African textile culture and background in biochemistry to create the backgrounds of her paintings.

Camilla Hanney is a ceramicist and sculptor who is exploring historical issues surrounding the suppression of women’s desires and sexuality in both art and religion. She examines ways to deconstruct these dated representations of women and rebuild new figures, toying with the tensions lying between beauty and repulsion, curiosity and discomfort, desire and disgust.

Paloma Tendero is a photographer who explores how the DNA we inherit means that we build physical and psychological relationships with others and our bodies; relationships that may that end up defining us completely. Paloma was recently awarded a prize from Photo Fusion and is nominated for a prize at Wellcome Collection.
