Join us for the launch of the new Femfolio exhibition as well as lots more activities in celebration of International Women's Day.

About this Event

At 3pm hear students from the History of Art Department at Cambridge University discuss the works in the Femfolio.  The Femfolio comprises twenty works by the leading women artists who were central to the feminist art movement in the 1970s. Artists include Emma Amos, Eleanor Antin, Nancy Azara, Betsy Damon, Mary Beth Edelson, Lauren Ewing, Harmony Hammond, Joyce Kosloff, Diane Neeumaier, Faith Ringgold, Miriam Schapiro, Carolee Schneemann, Joan Semmel, Slyvia Sleigh, Joan Snyder, Nancy Spero, May Stevens, Athena Tasha, June Wayne, and Martha Wilson.

At 4pm we will be joined by the artist Permindar Kaur who will discuss the topic of being a BME woman artist in the art world today. Permindar has work in the New Hall Art Collection which will be on display in the Dome. 

Refreshments will be served from 5-5.45pm

At 5.45pm visitors are invited to the Music and Words event led by the joint Churchill and Murray Edwards Choir in the Fellow's Drawing Room that begins with an address by Murray Edwards Fellow Dr Lucy Delap on 'Women's Futurity' and is followed by music by women composers. The event is followed by a drinks reception. 

The day ends with a screening at 8pm of Frida the 2002 American biographical drama film directed by Julie Taymor that depicts the professional and private life of the surrealist Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. In the VSR.
